The sacrifices made by Pakistan’s Armed Forces to safeguard their homeland and people are greatly lauded. The nation holds the men in uniform in high regard, but their families are also lauded. A letter from Captain Asim Kareem Shaheed’s widow was just posted on social media, and Pakistanis can’t stop crying.
“I waved one final time to Asim, who was returning to duty on 2 February 2010 after a few days leave in Multan, despite a high-grade fever, running nose, and some underlying unease.” He was assigned to Multan but was ordered to fly a mission in the FATA,” she wrote.
“I salute you, Asim; each day I miss you more than the day before, but being the widow of a shaheed is a pedestal you bestowed upon me, eternally,” she continued. KP was commissioned in the 41 Signals Battalion by Capt Asim Karim Khan Shaheed (Tamgha-e-Basalat), a Malakand native.”
“I was diagnosed with cancer just a few months after our wedding on August 12, 2006.” During that terrible time, he looked after me to the best of his ability and was my most steadfast supporter. ‘Fight it like a soldier,’ he would often advise me, and I made it through the difficult Cameo Therapy treatment. That disease drew us closer together.”
“On the tragic day of his Shahadat, he was sent a mission in Tirah Valley, Khyber Agency, to demolish terrorist hideouts. Asim, according to his teammates, embraced the challenge with a smile on his face and flew into the heartland of terrorists, bombarding them with fire before being hit by a rocket launcher round, bringing him to the highest level of respect and honour.”
‘You were my spouse, and you are my pride,’ says the woman.
“Dear Asim, I never seen snowfall in mid February but once I did, it was the day you were buried,” writes the heartbroken wife. It seemed as if the heavens had strewn white roses across the entire Malakand Division.”
“You always desired to be a Shaheed, and Allah granted it to you as a recompense. When I asked him about the War on Terror, he used to say, “We troops take an oath that we will fight for this nation till our last breath.”
“No one has forgotten you, Asim.” I am summoned on every occasion, and people speak to me about you and your sacrifice. The Pakistan Army looks after me and treats me with respect at all times. Your Army is treating all of Shuhada’s families in this manner. Even if you no longer wear Khaki, we are all proud of the Pakistan Army.”
“Shaheeds are the actual pride of the nation; they gave their lives so that we could live.” When you were around, I always felt proud. But being the widow of Captain Asim Karim Khan Shaheed makes me even more proud (Tamgha-e-Basalat). You used to be my husband, and now you’re my pride.”
