If you want to send many images by email or post them to a social media platform, resizing them can save you a lot of time because it will take less time to transfer them. Here are three methods for resizing JPEG photos.
3 Ways to Reduce the Size of a JPEG
1. Online JPEG Image Resizing
There are a plethora of useful websites online that will allow you to rapidly resize your JPEG photographs to the size you wish. Take, for example, Canva.
Go to Canva.com to resize your JPEG image.
After you Sign Up with your email address, you’ll find a selection of templates for various creatives on the Home screen.
A tab labelled ‘Create a Design’ can be seen in the top right corner.
Select the choice and scroll to the bottom of the list to Custom Size.
Set the image’s width and height. This should be done in accordance with your desired size.
Create a new design by clicking the Create New Design button.
You’ll be taken to a new page where you’ll find a blank template for your image.
The option ‘Uploads’ is located in the left corner. That should be clicked.
Choose the image you wish to resize from your media library and upload it.
Drag and drop the image to the blank size chart once it’s been uploaded.
It should be stretched or folded to fit properly in the size you specified before.
When you’re finished, click the Download button in the top right corner.
Select JPEG as the format for your image by clicking on it.
Your image will begin to download and will be ready to use in a few moments.
2. Using Windows Paint to resize a JPEG image
To resize your JPEG image in Paint, make a copy of it first so you may keep the original.
Paint is a free image editor that comes with every version of Windows. To open an image with Paint, right-click it and select ‘Edit’, then ‘Open with Paint.’
To pick the full image you want to enlarge, press Ctrl+A. A dotted line will appear around the boundaries of your image once it has been selected.
The option ‘Resize’ can be found on the Home tab. Select it by clicking on it.
You can resize your image by percentage or by pixels once you’ve opened the resize option.
You’ll have to input the precise size of the image you want if you choose pixels.
You can increase the image size by entering percentages greater than 100 if you use the percentage option.
Paint retains the aspect ratio by default to prevent the image from stretching or folding too much.
Uncheck the ‘Maintain Aspect Ratio’ option to specify your own horizontal and vertical ratio.
To save your changes, click OK after you’ve altered the image size.
If you’re not satisfied with the outcome, hit Ctrl+Z to reverse your modifications.
If you’re happy with the new image size, select ‘Save as’ from the File menu in the top left corner.
Select Save as JPEG image.
Give your file a name and a location where it will be kept.
3. Using Preview on a MacBook to resize a JPEG image
Make a copy of the original file before making any changes to a JPEG image in MacBook. Press Command+C to select the file, then Command+V to copy and paste the image in the same location.
Right-click the image you wish to modify and select “Save As.” To open the file, go to ‘Open with Preview’.
Select ‘Adjust Size’ from the Tools menu. You’ll be taken to a new window where you can adjust the image size automatically.
To make adjustments, go to the drop-down menu and select the units you want to change. You have the option of changing the image size by pixels or percentages, just like in Paint.
Uncheck the ‘Scale proportionally’ option to scale both vertically and horizontally without losing the aspect ratio.
To save the modifications to your image, click OK. If you don’t receive the results you want, use Command+Z to return to the default size.
To save your file, go to the File menu and pick ‘Save’. Your new JPEG image will be saved.
Always keep in mind that reducing the size of an image can degrade its quality significantly, and stretching an image can make the pixels appear blocky and grainy.
